What's It Like to Work at Whole Foods

Good workplace to quickly learn a job

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed

Worked as a cashier during a winter break; quickly picked up the job and was able to make decent money during the time period. The work environment was friendly, however standing for hours, working on single task, with only a 30 minute break was sometimes exhausting.

Not poc inclusive, Bias management

Ive never had a job yet with such little advancement and such bias management. I was repeatedly looked over every time i needed something. I was disrespected by management all the time

Cons

Bad management, overworked

Good people, everything else mediocre

The people I work with are the only thing keeping me sane. Mediocre pay, dwindling benefits, mindless work… your typical customer service/retail fare. Don't know why they pretend there's a "culture" and it's somehow different from any other big box store these days.

It seemed fun.

I've been here for a bit now... I loved it at first. Great people, fun work environment. You do have to keep yourself busy, even if it's slow and you finished your task. If you are caught just standing there not doing anything like wiping something or organizing you'll get yelled at. Management here is terrible. They act like they're listening to you and hear your problems but at the end of the day they don't care. There's too much butt kissing and cliques. There's some people there who gossip all day. If you complain to a manager or team leader too much they'll just find you as a nuisance instead of trying to fix the problem. The cliques act like a bunch of highschoolers. There are highschoolers & people in their 20s that act better than them.

Pros

2 paid 10min break. 1 unpaid 30min break. 20% discount (isnt much, but its something)

Cons

Cliques, a lot of negative talking from "management", working with a bunch of people who act like there in high school.

Diversity

Retention of employees was difficult. Overall each department relies heavily on a few key individuals to manage the majority of the work. Great deal of change as Amazon continues to implement new protocols and expectations on performance.

Cons

Amazon is eating the soul out of the company

Not a bad place to get a paycheck…

Management sucks… They hire within and there's a bunch of inexperienced teenagers and 20 year olds with supervisor roles. As an Amazon company, expect to do what you were hired for and then some. They really milk you for all you can do… Overall, not bad, but I wouldn't build a career here. Opt for someplace that cares more for its employees.

Pros

20% employee discount on anything in-store

Cons

Management, male dominated environment, overworked employees, generally unorganized

Good if you wanna throw you life out the window

Understaffed 100% of the time, work load falls on the people who bothered to show up to work, work sometimes gets overwhelming unable to leave until work gets done, you'll never see managers because even they wouldn't want to work the graveyard shift. And supervisor micro manages everything

Pros

Nice co workers, 20% discount, Pay

Cons

Shortbreaks, heavy work load, management

Used to pay better.

They pay less than other stores and require more work. Can't keep staff. Zero diversity in upper management. Can't hire people so you'll often find yourself doing the work of two or three people and getting paid for on. Zero consistency in maintaining work rules.

Cons

Diversity in management is non existent.

Good starting job

It's a good starting job but you're in the same place with no sign of moving up. At least that was the story at the store I worked at

Pays the bills

The job is okay. No work life balance and management showed favoritism. Benefits are great and that probably was the best perk of the job. I wouldn't turn this into a long term job

Good opportunities for advancement

In my time here, I advanced from team member to Associate Team Leader. I always got fair and generous raises. Hard work and dedication were recognized and compensated. Work was often stressful though, and I had to work lots of crazy hours for holidays, inventory nights, etc. The company attracts and hires a variety of employees - some of which can be difficult to work with. But overall, most people were nice and easy to work with.

Pros

Employee discount, good pay

Stay away

Stay away, unless your are desperate for a Paycheck. there is a reason they are losing people and cannot fill the open positions. I am glad, however, I went to work for them, because I will NEVER look back and regret my decision to leave, as a result of my experience with them.

Cons

401k sucks. Staff Recruiting is a failure. Health Insurance Shameful (mass health is better!)

It's okay if you don't have a life

Management is good if you're working daytime but over night is just a bunch of headless chickens running around, the overnight life isn't it at this job

Cons

Short breaks, heavy labor

Disappointing

I expected more from such a great company that I heard great things about. My first day I was given no training, and often told to figure things out on my own. They made me restock an entire freezer for 3 hours by myself without gloves because they were "out." My first day the one coworker I found nice there constantly begged me not to leave because he "knew it seemed bad." There was no direction and no clear since of purpose, nor training. I basically would spend an 8 hour shift restocking the same aisle over and over and over again. Not to mention my first two days they made me stay two hours past my agreed upon shift; and hired me on the "worst day possible" as several people told me, as it was the day they have to itemize the whole store. Left soon after.

Pros

Free food, lots of nice people

Cons

No instructions, poor training, no regard for safety, scheduling is difficult

its pretty decent for retail

I liked working there for the most part. My coworkers were really fun to hang out with. The discount was generous. I felt like they listened to us really well. They fed us really well the samples and leftovers were a great perk.

Pros

diverse and inclusive

Cons

very strict about tidy shelves

Never Work Here

The people are rude, managers don't care about your personal life. You'll get fired over the managers mistake. Managers are very unprofessional. AVOID WHOLE FOODS.

Cons

short breaks, unfriendly environment, unprofessional managers

Fun workplace

Making lots of experimental recipes for alternative foods . Able to add own recipes to company and be compensated for it. Creativity is encouraged. Diversity in the workplace

Pros

Chance for advancement

Cons

Hard to park if driving to Manhattan

Not great

Unfortunately Amazon has tanked the company into the ground. Goals for management in all departments are strenuous and take time to do. Yet they worry about overtime. Penny pinchers for a billion dollar company.

Culture, Culture, Culture

WFM's culture was way ahead of the game years ago. Happy Team Members=Happy customers=$$$. Due to the retail environment, flexibility is limited. Not as clicky as other work environments due to welcomed diversity and a true team environment. If you are not a team player don't bother working here. Corporate very supportive during pandemic.

Pros

Employee discount, Team Members, able to be your authentic self, great starting pay

Company management

It's a good company overall, the benefits are ok. More career opportunities, constant trainings on line assessments yearly job dialog review and salary increases.

Pros

Free lunches during holidays and special days like anniversary

Decent pay great environment

It's an easy job for pretty decent pay. Upper management is amazing. Some of the department managers are tough to deal with but it's not the worst. Overall pretty good job
